USA Cabinet Store is helping homeowners across the Research Triangle understand what the newly released 2027 kitchen design trends mean for projects within their existing floor plans. The National Kitchen & Bath Association released its 2027 kitchen design trends on Oct. 14, 2026, drawing on survey responses from 830 North American industry professionals, and the findings point toward smarter, more deliberate kitchens rather than simply larger ones.

According to the NKBA 2027 Kitchen Trends Report, 52% of industry professionals expect kitchen footprints to grow, down from 76% in the prior year’s report. The same report found that 81% view intentional zoning as a lasting direction, 85% say cabinetry is increasingly designed to conceal appliances and 54% anticipate islands finished in a distinct color. Together, these figures suggest that even as many kitchens continue to grow, the emphasis is shifting toward making better use of the space already present. The figures reflect what surveyed professionals expect over the next three years, not measured homeowner spending.

KITCHEN DESIGN TRENDS 2027

At its Cary showroom, USA Cabinet Store translates these professional expectations into decisions homeowners can see before committing. Defined zones, concealed appliance storage and contrasting islands are mapped out during the design meeting of the company’s kitchen remodeling process, when clients review layout, cabinetry and finishes through VR 3D kitchen design. Concealed storage and appliance placement are then confirmed during measurement and planning, when plumbing and electrical locations are finalized before any materials are ordered. For a homeowner keeping an existing L-shaped kitchen, that could mean setting aside one cabinet run as a beverage zone, fitting panels so the refrigerator and dishwasher match the surrounding cabinetry and finishing the island in a contrasting color, all without moving a wall.

“The report reflects where design professionals expect the market to move, and it lines up with what many Triangle homes already need,” said Emin Halac, CEO of USA Cabinet Store. “Most homeowners are not looking to expand walls. They want zoning, hidden appliances and smarter storage inside the footprint they have, and those choices are best settled at the design stage rather than mid-project.”

Color forecasts point the same way. Sherwin-Williams announced Celery (SW 6421), an airy herbal green, as its 2027 Color of the Year on Sept. 15, 2026. In the NKBA report, 83% of professionals expect greens to be popular, second only to neutrals at 96%.

Halac noted that timelines depend on the scope defined early in the kitchen remodeling process. According to the company’s published estimates, most kitchen remodels are completed within six to 10 weeks. A focused update such as replacing cabinetry, countertops and backsplash within an existing layout may take four to six weeks, while a full renovation involving layout changes, plumbing relocation, electrical upgrades and custom cabinetry typically takes eight to 12 weeks, with actual schedules depending on project complexity, permitting and material availability. Halac said early planning around zoning and concealed storage helps keep projects on schedule once installation begins.
